In protest of a proposal to put an Immigration Detention Center in Crete, Illinois, opponents have organized a three-day March from Chicago to Crete.
The protest will begin at Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission, 3442 W. 26th St., in the Little Village neighborhood and will travel to the Cook County Jail, 26th Street and California Avenue, for a rally followed by a walk through Back of the Yards, Chicago Lawn, Wrightwood and Evergreen Park, reports the <Chicago Sun Times</em>.
Saturday, the walk will continue at 9 a.m. as the protesters head through Beverly, Blue Island, Harvey, Homewood, and Chicago Heights. On the final day, the march will end in Crete at about 12 noon, with a rally planned for 1 p.m. at the site for the proposed site. The detention center would be able to hold up 750 people.
The protest is being organized by Our Lady of Guadalupe Justice Mission, Moratorium on Deportations Campaign and other organizations.
