At least seven people were killed and one was seriously injured in a traffic accident early Sunday in Santiago, a city in the northern Dominican Republic, the National Police said.
Elias Samuel Peralta, 25, Carlos Argelis Reyes, 20, Josely Lino, 22, Tania Lino, no age given, Pamela Vargas, 14, Yaquiris Martinez, 21, and Antonio Manuel Lantigua, 55, died in the accident.
Angelina Carolina Peralta, 17, was seriously injured and is being treated at a hospital.
The victims were traveling in an SUV that spun out of control around 3:00 a.m. on Santiago’s 27 de Febrero avenue, police said.
The vehicle’s occupants had been at an entertainment center just before the accident occurred, police said.
The majority of the victims were from the northwestern border city of Dajabon and were going to school in Santiago.
