A Los Angeles cruise line has invited former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, former NASA astronaut Mark Kelly to speak and engage in a photo session with guests of a Mediterranean luxury cruise this summer.

Giffords made headlines as the world pulled for her recovery after she was shot in the head at a local community event in January 2011. With her devoted husband by her side, the Democratic Representative from Tucson continues to make a remarkable recovery. However, despite her fight for life and amazing strength, in February 2012, Giffords resigned from her U.S. House seat.

Crystal Cruises said former astronaut Kelly is scheduled for a speaking engagement on the cruise, and a photo opportunity with him and Giffords, the trip’s guests of honor, will be held for cruise guests as well.

The 12-day, $5,410-per-person cruise will travel through the Mediterranean from Lisbon, Portugal to Rome, Italy, which stops in Gibraltar; Barcelona and Palamós, Spain; Cannes, France; Monte Carlo; and Livorno and Porto Venere, Italy.
