A New Mexico man entrusted with the welfare of animals has been arrested for allegedly running a pit bull breeding company and using his city email address to conduct the business.
After working for the Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department for seven years, supervisor Jose Martinez has been fired.
Dayna Gardner, of the City of Albuquerque told local ABC affiliate KOAT, ‘What he was doing was the absolute antithesis of what the folks at Albuquerque Animal Welfare get up and want to do every day.’
She added that Martinez’s actions violate employee policies and Albuquerque’s Animal Humane and Ethical Treatment rules.
Not only was the breeding itself questionable, but he was using his city email address and conducting business during hours he was supposed to be working.
Martinez’s firing comes as a result of a month-long investigation.
