A Salvadoran man was arrested by Texas authorities after a teacher noticed that a student had received suggestive texts from the man.
Gerber Deltransi Guevara-Silva, 28 was arrested and taken to Travis County Jail on a charge of online solicitation of a minor after a teacher at Pleasant Hill Elementary School in Austin confiscated a 12-year-old student’s phone Monday morning.
A teacher reportedly saw messages that included “I love you, baby” along with a photo of a bed. The teacher then called school police who looked through the phone and recovered additional inappropriate texts allegedly from Guevara-Silva, including photos of his car, a motel, and explicit photos.
Police located Guevara-Silva at a nearby restaurant where he and the 12-year-old were to meet for lunch. A rose and greeting card were found in his car, according to the affidavit.
He reportedly told police he initially thought the girl was 17, but after learning she was not, he only wanted to talk to her at a hotel not have sex. Guevara-Silva said he sent the girl a replacement phone in the mail after her mother destroyed hers after finding explicit photos on it.
The girl told police she met Guevara-Silva at a swimming pool in 2011, while he said he met her through Facebook.
Guevara-Silva is from El Salvador and has been living in Houston on a passport. His bail has been set at $60,000 and is also being held on immigration charges.
