After eating at a Las Cruces, New Mexico Applebee’s a man a two females decided that they weren’t going to pay for the food and attempted to leave. However, they did not seem to realize that the restaurant was full of cops working as servers that day.

On March 1, Alan Golden, 22, was part of a group eating at an Applebee’s. Trying to avoid paying the less-than-$30 bill, the group tried to sneak out, but what they failed to realize was that the restaurant was currently filled with local police officers serving as wait staff to raise money for charity.

The officers were working at the Applebee’s during the “Tip-A-Cop” fundraiser to raise money for the New Mexico Special Olympics.

After the group’s dine-and-dash attempt failed, Golden was arrested and charged with obtaining services less than $100. He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center on a $250 surety bond.

Despite the group’s despicable actions, the event managed to raise just under $3,500 for Special Olympics.
