Karaoke night at a Texas bar turned deadly after a bar patron shot a man singing “Somos mas Americanos”.
The victim had just finished his rendition of the Los Tigres del Norte song, which translates to “We Are More American”, when four men unhappy with his song selection began an argument with him at Houston’s Ostioneria Mazatlan #2 bar.
Without warning, a Hispanic man in the group stood up, pulled a pistol from his waistband, and shot the victim in the head.
Both the shooter and his group then fled the scene in what witnesses identified as a red Chevrolet pickup truck. Two women who were sitting with them also left, fleeing in a green Nissan Pathfinder.
It is not believed the victim and the shooter knew each other, though an investigation is ongoing.
The translated lyrics to the song include :
We are more American. We are more American than the children of the Anglo-Saxons.
They have shouted at me a thousand times I should go back to my country. Because there’s no room for me here. I want to remind the gringos: I didn’t cross the border, the border crossed me.
Police have yet to make an arrest in the Monday night shooting, as the shooter is still on the loose, but police have urged anyone with information to contact the Houston Crime Stoppers.
