As a result of her opposition to same-sex marriage, Gov. Susana Martinez (R) will have to find a new hairstylist.  Her former stylist, Antonio Darden, owner of Antonio’s Hair Studio in Santa Fe, refuses to continue seeing the Governor.

According to KOB Eyewitness News 4, Darden states, “The governor’s aides called not too long ago, wanting another appointment to come in.  Because of her stances and her views on same-sex marriage, I told her aides no.”

Gov. Martinez has stated in the past that she believes marriage should only be between a man and a woman.  During her campaign, she did not believe that a domestic partnership bill would be “necessary” and said she would vote ‘no’ on any such bill.  Yet, her recent appointment of openly gay Doug Howe to the Public Regulation Commission brought her some praise among gay activists.

This issue, however, just hits too close to home for the popular hairstylist.  “I think it’s just equality, dignity for everyone.  I think everybody should be allowed the right to be together.  My partner and I have been together for 15 years,” explains Darden.
