Colombia’s navy, air force and police collaborated Tuesday in the confiscation of 1,000 kilos (2,202 pounds) of cocaine, authorities said.
“Thanks to intelligence information,” according to an official statement, the air force detected a drug-laden boat in Colombia’s Caribbean waters and relayed its position to naval units.
Pursued by the navy vessels, the smugglers ran their boat aground on a beach near Puerto Estrella in the northeastern province of La Guajira and then fled, leaving the cocaine behind.
The consignment, with an estimated value of $30 million, was apparently bound for the United States via Central America, the statement said.
