On Thursday the Chicago Public library facility located at the corner of Kedzie and Chicago avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood was named in honor of former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by Daley himself as well as the current Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Public Library Commissioner Mary A. Dempsey. During the ceremonies Mayor Emanuel noted that 59 new libraries had been built during the 22 years Daley was mayor.

The new library facility is 16,300 square feet and was designed as a green, environmentally safe building.  The library is expected to have an extensive collection of Spanish language books.
