La Linea cartel leader Jose Antonio Acosta Hernandez known as ‘El Diego’ has been in custody for just one day and he has already confessed to ordering the murders of 1,500 people.
El Diego was apprehended and arrested for running the enforcement arm of the Juarez cartel. In essence La Linea kept everyone in order for the Juarez cartel to stick to its business of trafficking drugs. He was one of Mexico’s most wanted felons with a price tag of $1.3 million on his head.
Most of the killings Acosta Hernandez is admitting to were carried out in Ciudad Juarez, one of Mexico’s most deadly cities. El Diego has been implicated in organizing and carrying out the murder of three U.S. consulate employees last year in March and the mass killing of 15 youngsters at a house party in January of 2010. He acknowledges that most of his intended targets were government officials, cartel rivals and ordinary citizens that got in the cartels way.
Acosta Hernandez was captured after engaging Mexican authorities in a gun battle in Juarez.
