The Honduran government with assistance from a U.S. Coast Guard patrol have seized a submarine with tons of cocaine aboard. The submarine-like water craft appears to be made of fiberglass and was found about 50 feet below the water surface in the province of Gracias a Dios (thanks to God).
The vehicle was spotted by a U.S. Coast Guard patrol with five crew members detained. The crew attempted to sink the submarine when spotted. Officials seized close to 13.8 tons of drugs with a street value of $500 million but thus far have only been able to recover from the submerged vessel approximately 7.3 tons with a value of $250 million.
The seizure was so large that officials have not yet finished recovering all the drugs aboard in spite of being at it since Wednesday.
