Scouts and Scouters on Chicago’s Northwest Side are coming together between 8:30 a.m. and noon on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at St. Pascal’s Heimsath Hall, 6143 W. Irving Park Road, to host a pancake breakfast to help ease the financial burden of health care for own of their own.
Mike Garcia, a former Cub Master of Cub Scout Pack 3815 and a longtime Scout leader of Boy Scout Troop 815 at St. Pascal’s Church, was diagnosed recently with stage IV stomach cancer. He is fighting the disease by undergoing extensive chemotherapy treatments. Mr. Garcia and his family became aware of his condition just after Thanksgiving, when he started experiencing flu symptoms.
The Garcia family has asked that his Scouting friends pray for his health and for strength during this challenge. At the same time, his fellow Scouters have rallied to organize this fundraising event to help relieve some of the financial strain and to show their moral support.
The $10, all-you-can eat breakfast of pancakes, sausage, fresh fruit, coffee, juice and milk is open to the public. There will also be a raffle for a variety of quality prizes. Donations to the family may be directed to St. Pascal’s Church.
All proceeds from the event will be given by the Scouts and the Church to the Garcia family.
