20-Year Brazilian Pro-Racer Kills Pedestrian in Miami, Cops Smell Booze & See Coke Dust on Nose

20-year old Brazilian car driver, Joao Paulo Escudero Mauro, is facing multiple charges for fatally striking a pedestrian in Miami. 

Mauro has been charged with DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, cocaine possession and having a fake ID after driving his silver Mercedes-Benz about 60 mph in a 30 mph zone and striking Russell Knudson.  Mauro car jumped onto the sidewalk on Collins Avenue and struck 45-year-old Knudson as he was putting his bicycle into his car.

Upon investigating the police noted that Mauro smelled of alcohol and had ‘white powdery substance in his left nostril.’  Miami police found a stash of cocaine in the car and an Brazilian ID card that had been altered making Mauro of a legal drinking age.

Mauro comes from a very wealthy family in Brazil and was in Florida studying.  He has raced at Road America 200 and has competed in the Brazilian stock car circuit. 

Bond has been set at $260,000 and was ordered to surrender his passport.
