Former Utah Governor and Republican presidential contender Jon Huntsman is expected to announce he is withdrawing from the race sometime tomorrow.
Several credible news sources are reporting that he will withdraw and at the same time throw his support behind Mitt Romney. Both Huntsman and Romney are in South Carolina in preparation for that state’s debate tomorrow in Myrtle Beach and for the primary on January 21, 2012.
Huntsman had been trailing in all polls and in certain polls only obtained a 1% to 2% following. Most recently he placed third in the New Hampshire primary, one of his better showings.
Like Romney, Huntsman is a Mormon and former governor. Huntsman is also a former ambassador to China appointed by President Obama, a position he received a lot of criticism for accepting.
