A civil servant has been sentenced to 48 years in prison for presenting fake documents to get paid for time away from the office, the Mexican Attorney General’s Office said.
The AG’s office did not identify the former civil servant or the agency he worked for, but a public affairs representative told Efe the statement announcing the stiff sentence was correct.
A federal court in Mexico City handed down the tough punishment to the former official, who must also pay a fine of 119,848 pesos ($8,560), the AG’s office said.
“The public official, who presented unauthentic documentation and used supposedly official documents to justify absences from his work location, was proven to have committed” the violations, the AG’s office said.
