Just as quick as Verizon’s $2 online fee was introduced it is getting the old boot out the door and a quick ¡Adios! right before the New Year and in light of much customer outrage.

Today the company announced it would not move forward with its plan to charge the fee for EVERY payment subscribers made online or on the telephone.

The corporate geniuses concluded paying to pay your bill was bad business and could result in no business.  Or maybe it was the federal regulators the New York Times said would be looking into the fees that persuaded them.

Officially they noted “customer feedback” as the reason why their “convenience fee” had become inconvenient.  The $2 fee was due to be implemented on January 15, 2012.

Negative reaction was swift and vast, from an online petition on Change.org that gathered 95,000 names to numerous Twitter campaigns.

The customer would not have incurred a fee for mailing in the payment, using automatic pay or paying in person. How Nice!
