Argentine government official Ivan Heyn was found dead in his hotel room December 20th with many believing he had committed suicide, but evidence has revealed that his death was likely an accident.

While in Uruguay for the MERCOSUR summit, Heyn was found dead with his own belt around his neck in what was initially thought to be a suicide attempt, but has since been deemed an accidental death. It is believed that the deputy secretary of foreign trade for Argentina accidentally killed himself by way of autoerotic asphyxia in which the a person limits the amount of oxygen to the brain and lungs to achieve a stronger orgasm.

Heyn, 33, was found in his hotel room at the Radisson Hotel in Montevideo alone, naked, and with his own belt around his neck with the other end tied to the crossbar of the wardrobe. Traces of semen are said to have been found on his body. It is not believed anyone else was involved in his death.

Police officers stated that Heyn, “in the process of partial self-strangulation ... miscalculated his forces and lost control of the situation.”

Those participating in the Southern Common Market were stunned to learn of the young economist’s death. Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner was so upset she had to ask for medical attention.

Heyn’s funeral was held in Buenos Aires and arranged by Luana Volnovich, his fiancĂ©, He had lived with her for the last three years.

The summit is a South American trade bloc made up of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Leaders from Venezuela and Ecuador are also said to be attending, with the summit’s main issue being whether to admit Venezuela as a member.
