She may be one of the stars of ABC’s Desperate Housewives, but actress Eva Longoria is proving she cares about more than just red carpet events.
In one of the latest Twitter wars, Longoria blasted presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich for claiming that poor children have no work habits unless it involves something “illegal.”
The Republican candidate when on to say that poor children should worm as janitors in schools, and Thursday, said, “Really poor children in really poor neighborhoods have no habits of working and have nobody around them who works, so they literally have no habit of showing up on Monday. They have no habit of staying all day. They have no habit of ‘I do this and you give me cash’ unless it’s illegal.”
In response to Gingrich, Longoria, a notable Obama supporter, tweeted: “@newtgingrich you clearly know little about the Latina community, Latina entrepreneurs who start businesses at 6 times the national average.”
As one of Hollywood’s top actresses, Longoria has routinely used her celebrity status for various causes like migrant child labor laws, and pledged her support for President Obama. According to Federal Election Commission records, she has donated more than $40,000 to Obama-related funds as well as to the Democratic National Committee.
