The body of a 7-year-old girl who went missing last week was found Monday, with police calling the murder “horrific and brutal.”
The disfigured body of Jorelys Rivera was found earlier this week in a dumpster after she went missing from a park in her family’s apartment complex Friday. She and her siblings were supposed to be under the supervision of a babysitter.
Investigators say her body was badly disfigured, as it was bludgeoned, stabbed, and showed signs of sexual assault.
During a press conference, Director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Vernon Kennan said, “We don’t know if the child was targeted or not. We do know from what was determined through the autopsy and other evidence this was a very calculated and planned crime.”
Police believe an unlocked apartment at the River Ridge apartment complex, where the family lived, is where Jorelys was assaulted and murdered before her tiny body was thrown in the dumpster.
