A man claims that his wife attempted to cut him penis off Saturday at their desert resort home in California.

Saturday afternoon, the Palm Springs police received a call from a 62-year-old man who claimed his wife had attacked him. When officers arrived, the husband said his wife, 69-year-old Virginia Valdez, tried to snip off his penis with scissors, and though failing to do so, she injured the area.

Valdez was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, spousal abuse, and mayhem. Police say she appeared to have thought for at least a moment about what she was going to do, as the scissors she chose to attack her husband with were the heavy-duty kind used to cut poultry, and not just ordinary scissors one would use to cut something like wrapping paper.

Police stated the cause of the altercation was a “long-running marital dispute.”

According to Smith Correctional Facility records, Valdez was released on $100,000 bail. Her husband was treating for non-life threatening wounds and was released Saturday evening.

The couple has been married for 32 years.
