Police say Michael David Robles may have defied a restraining order against him when he allegedly kidnapped and killed his ex-girlfriend.

The body of Kathy Scharbarth was found Friday by police after she was reported missing from her home on Thanksgiving Day, which was coincidentally also her 35th birthday.

The Carlsbad, California resident filed a complaint of domestic violence and received a restraining order against Robles, 43, in hopes of protecting herself and her 13-year-old daughter, Madison.

Scharbarth’s cousin said that the few times he’d met Robles while his Kathy was still dating him, Robles seemed like a nice guy, but he added that if he’s is responsible for her death, “I hope he rots.”
