If you were worried about drinking the water in Peru when traveling there, this might give you real pause. The Mayor in the small town of Huarmey, Peru is claiming the abundance of strontium (not to be confused with scrotum) is reducing male hormones and could lead to increase in homosexuality in the region.
Scientists and especially those in Peru claim strontium does indeed alter someone’s health and has been linked to bone cancer, anemia and cardiovascular problems. No studies have linked high levels of strontium to homosexuality.
The homo-phobic mayor, Jose Benitez, thinks the tap water that comes from http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2011/11/22/peruvian-mayor-concerned-tap-water-will-turn-town-gay/” title=“nearby Tabalosos”]nearby Tabalosos[/url] caused that town’s majority-population of gay men. Some reports put the town population as 14,000 gay-men only. Incidentally the gay-men only in Tabalosos is a myth.
Apparently Benitez wants to blame something for the increase in homosexual men residents – could it be that they just like living in the scenic coastal town???
