A groups of DREAMers are creating a series of videos, attempting to help those who are not undocumented immigrants understand what it’s like to be those who are.
Dreamers Adrift, have so far created two episodes for a series called, “Undocumented and Awkward”.
When you don’t have a U.S. government-issued ID it can lead to uncomfortable and awkward moments, if not scary ones involving immigration officials. The group’s first episode shows how a simple blind date at a club can be hindered when your undocumented.
Dreamers Adrift describes itself as “4 Lives… 4 College Grads… Representing 1 DREAM for countless others.”
“We, along side thousands of others, are fighting towards the passage of the DREAM Act,” their website states. “This is a bipartisan legislation that will give undocumented youth an opportunity to become legal residents. Under the rigorous provisions of the DREAM Act, qualifying undocumented youth would be eligible for a 6 year long conditional path to citizenship that requires completion of two years in college or two years of military service. The bill was first introduced a decade ago, but has yet to make it through the United States congress.”
For now, the four college grads are trying to shed light on what the DREAM Act means for them and for countless other undocumented youth who face limitations and frightening consequences simply because they were not born in America.
