The Chicago Bears and Constellation Energy are partnering on a new long-term environmental initiative to “Save Da Planet,” announced this morning at Halas Hall by the Bears organization.
Constellation will power this Sunday’s game (Nov. 20) against the San Diego Chargers with 100 percent renewable energy. The company will purchase renewable energy credits (RECs) to cover typical energy usage on game days – helping those attending the game avoid approximately 42 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions – that’s more than 1,700 propane grills commonly used at tailgates.
Constellation executives and Bears players will also participate in a school visit at 1 pm on Tuesday, November 15 at Hamilton Elementary School in Chicago. Students will present their school’s environmental initiatives and lead a tour. Bears personnel will then participate with the fourth grade class in their daily food composting duties after lunch.
