The Attorney General of the United States is visiting the Dominican Republic this Monday. Eric Holder will meet with President Leonel Fernandez at his office in the Presidential Palace.

He is also scheduled to give a talk on National Judicial Cooperation between the Dominican Republic and the United States: Its Impact on Organized Crime.  Holder, a New York lawyer, was sworn in as Attorney General in 2009.

Online news sources say that Holder took an active part in the arrest of Jose Figueroa Agosto, Puerto Rico’s modern day Pablo Escobar. Until his arrest, Figueroa Agosto was said to have served as the mastermind behind one of Puerto Rico’s largest criminal enterprises. He escaped jail in Puerto Rico and fled to the Dominican Republic where he managed one of the largest suppliers of illegal drugs to the United States from afar.
