The American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois (ACLU) and a Chicago neighborhood organization have filed suit against the City of Chicago alleging minority neighborhoods receive less police protection versus white neighborhood.

The suit cites that there are delays in dispatching police officers to respond to 911 calls in neighborhoods that are predominantly African American and Hispanic; in essence providing unequal service.

The lawsuit cites various independent reports that there are less officers in minority, higher crime districts despite the demand for them.  There have been instances in these minority neighborhoods that due to demand there are not officers available to answer a call for help.

In spite of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s recent deployment of police officers it does not equalize the number of officers proportional to the number of 911 calls coming for minority districts.
