Republican Florida Senator Marco Rubio has come under fire once again after recently discovered records show the young politician embellished his family’s history.
Since catching the public eye, Sen. Rubio has expressed how proud he is of his Cuban-born parents, often mentioning how they were forced to flee after the brutal Castro regime took power.
However, upon investigation of his parents’ naturalization papers as well as other records, it was discovered that Mario and Oriales Rubio left more than 2 years before Castro took over.
This fact is in direct contrast to what is said on the 40-year-old Senator’s biography on his official website, where is states that his parents “came to America following Fidel Castro’s takeover.”
Rubio has even publically called himself the “son of exiles”.
Though rumors of his parents’ departure from Cuba before Castro took control have been swirling around the internet, the story of their “exile” was legitimized by the fact checkers at the Washington Post.
News of Sen. Rubio’s family history comes just as Florida State Senator Alan Hays is calling for the voters of a primarily Hispanic congressional district to verify their citizenship before being allowed to vote.
