The UN Population Fund (UNFP) is reporting on two fronts that Dominican Republican teens are facing large obstacles with a high unemployment rate and high teen pregnancy rate.
Over 20% of all Dominican teens have either been pregnant or are pregnant which is a rate that is above the Latin American average. The report sites poverty, lack of education and job opportunities as the leading causes for this high pregnancy rate.
In terms of employment, the report also paints a bleak picture. The country’s teens have a 29% unemployment rate or approximately 810,000 teens are with out work.
