Thursday, Mexican officials announced that the No. 3 leader of the notorious Los Zetas drug cartel has been captured.

Mexican soldiers captured Carlos Oliva-Castillo known as “La Rana” or “The Frog”, in the Coahuila capital city, Saltillo, about 250 miles south of Texas.

It is believed Oliva-Castillo is the man who ordered the firebombing on Casino Royale in Monterrey in August. In the end, 52 people were killed when Los Zetas entered the building with guns, refused to allow anyone but police to leave, and locked everyone inside. The majority of those who lost their lives died of smoke inhalation.

Col. Ricardo Trevilla, spokesman for Mexico’s armed forces, said, Oliva-Castillo, 37, is “one of the most important leaders” of Los Zetas. The only two believed to be ranked above him are Heriberto Lazcano-Lazcano and Miguel Angel Trevino-Morales, who each have a $5 million U.S. bounty on their heads.

An army statement said intelligence led the soldiers to a safe house in Saltillo. Wednesday, the house was stormed and Oliva-Castillo was arrested without anyone having to fire a shot. However, taking Oliva-Castillo proved more difficult, as gunmen opened fire on the soldiers, attempting to distract them so Oliva-Castillo could escape.

It is believed he joined Los Zetas in 2005, and worked in the border state of Tamaulipas relaying drugs into the U.S. He is also said to be the commander for Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon and Coahuila.

Along with Oliva-Castilla, a woman believed to be his girlfriend, and a man said to be his bodyguard were arrested.
