Betty Fords’ family has just announced that the former first lady and widow of the late President Gerald Ford had died at age 93 with her family at her side.  Betty Ford was also know as the co-founder of the Betty Ford Center to treatment addictions located in Palm Springs, California.

The former Elizabeth Anne Bloomer was born in Chicago wed the future President of the United States in 1948 after a brief marriage.  She was named Newsweek’s woman of the year in 1975 for her controversial remarks at the time regarding abortion and sexual relations.
