For undocumented students, it can be a struggle to pay for higher education since they are prevented from receiving federal financial aid and some states force them to pay out-of-state tuition which can be double in-state rates.

However, some students have turned to the internet for a solution, and found success in raising money for their education.

Sites like gofundme.com allow people to set up fundraisers for themselves, organizations, or causes, and that’s exactly what students are doing.

Some even go so far to blog about their lives and their daily experiences, while they hope DREAM Act legislation will pass soon, and give them the opportunity to continue their education in the U.S., the only country many of them know.

But sites like these are not without risk. By publicly announcing that they are undocumented, these students increase the risk of being detained and deported. Still, students feel say it is worth it.
