Mexican singer Paulina Rubio will be a coach in the singing contest for children, “La Voz Kids” (Kids Voice), which Telemundo will premiere next spring, the Spanish-language network said Monday.

In the competition, which is part of the successful NBC franchise “The Voice,” children ranging in age from 7 to 14 will try to win the prize for best voice under the direction of three music coaches.

Telemundo said in a communique that Rubio, who has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, is the first artist to join the program’s lineup and that another two celebrities will soon be announced as coaches.

Telemundo’s vice president of development and content, Daniel Cubillo, recalled that Rubio began her artistic career as a little girl with the Timbiriche group, which puts her “in a very special position to share with kids what she experienced on her way to making her dreams come true.”

For her part, the “Golden Girl” who coached “La Voz” in Mexico with the late Jenni Rivera and Spanish singer Miguel Bose, said she is “very excited” about the project that will open the doors to a new generation of artists.
