On Wednesday, the top 10 guys on American Idol sang to stay in the game and make it to the top 10 overall, where they will go head to head with the ladies.
Lazara Arbos, Devin Velez, and Elijah Liu impressed the judges.
Judge Mariah Carey has big fan of Lazaro, who struggles with a stutter when he speaks, but not when he sings. She was once again happy to hear him perform, saying, “It impresses me how you just throw yourself into whatever song you’re doing.” She added, “Whatever adversity you’ve had to overcome, you put in your music.”
Watch him sing “Feeling Good” here.
Devin Velez, who has remained memorable as the guy who mixes it up and sings in both English and Spanish, did so again Wednesday night when he sang “Somos Novios” and began in English then Spanish.
“When I start singing in Spanish, I feel like I go back to my roots…I feel like it’s authentic.”
The Chicago 18-year-old impressed the judges as well, with Randy Jackson saying, “I rarely say this on this show but your tone is one that I really, really like. I love the bravado as well.”
Half-Mexican singer Elijah Liu, 18, actually started the night, singing Rihanna’s “Stay”. Urban said the song really suited his voice and showed “really good control” from such a young singer.
Nicki, who once made Elijah blush by saying she wanted to have his babies, was at it again, telling him, “I would stay,” in reference to the song.
