According to data from the US Census Bureau, America now has the highest poverty rate in 50 years, and Hispanics are being hit especially hard.

As the number of Americans living in poverty jumped by 2.6 million in 2010, to 46.2 million people living under the poverty line, Hispanics saw the greatest rise, with more than a quarter of Hispanics living in poverty.

Hispanics say a 1.3 percent increase in the poverty rate, and now roughly 13.2 million live below the poverty line, while the median household income for Hispanics dropped by two percent to $37,759.

Even more frightening is the fact that household wealth for Hispanics fell 66 percent from 2005 to 2009, as the down economy has hit minorities the hardest.

Overall, around 15 percent of the U.S. population is living poverty.
