A female Mexican national was arrested Wednesday for attempting to smuggle nearly a pound of heroin through the Dennis DeConcini Port.

Customs and Border Protection officers selected Selena Andrea Perez-Cruz, 18, for an additional inspection when she attempted to enter the U.S. through a pedestrian lane. During the search, a female CBP officer found a single package with approximately 13.4 ounces of heroin tucked inside the woman’s bra.

The heroin was processed for seizure. Perez was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

Individuals arrested may be charged by complaint, the method by which a person is charged with criminal activity, which raises no inference of guilt. An individual is presumed innocent unless and until competent evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
