At a home where residents were known to have practiced Santeria, California authorities uncovered a number of human bones in the backyard.

Pasadena investigators uncovered at least one skull and various other human bones after authorities responded to a call about a trespasser on a homeowners property. When officers arrived they looked around the property. Rather than a trespasser, however, the officers found an altar with bones.

When the homeowner was asked about said bones, she told officers she practices Santeria, a West African and Caribbean religion.

A spokesperson for the Pasadena Police Department Crimes Against Person’s division said the coroner “determined them to be human bones.

The homeowner said she bought the bones off the online auction site eBay.

The woman will not face charges, as she used the bones for religious purposes, but authorities say they are investigating the websites selling the bones to determine how they obtained them. They are also working to identify who the bones.

One neighbor pointed out that some of the saints on display were Santa Muerte and Jesus Malverde, the saints of drug traffickers.
