A number of Latino actors have picked up roles in upcoming television pilots, including Michael Peña, Ramon Rodriguez, and John Ortiz.
Chicago-born Peña (End of Watch) nabbed the role of Deputy U.S. Marshal Soto in the Fox pilot. When members of the Federal Witness Security Program start getting killed, Soto leads the search for the person in possession of the list of protectors who are being killed off.
For his work on End of Watch alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Peña is nominated for a 2013 Independent Spirit Award. He can next be seen playing the lead in Diego Luna’s Chavez.
Rodriguez (Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen) was also tapped to lead another Fox drama. Rodriguez’s character is Ryan Lopez, a gang member sent to infiltrate the San Francisco Police Department, in Gang Related.
Ortiz (Silver Linings Playbook, Fast & Furious), a New York native, is set to play opposite Greg Kinnear in, you guessed it a Fox pilot. This time around however, the show is a comedic drama. According to Deadline, the show is based on the Australian series Rake. Kinnear plays Keegan Joye, a brilliant and often showy criminal defense lawyer, while Ortiz will play Ben, Kinnear’s friend from law school, and the more conservative of the two.
