It doesn’t appear that Peru will lose its dominance in the production and exporting of raw minerals.  The government is reporting that it expects to export over $24.7 billion in minerals which is a 13.8% increase over last year.

Peru is the second largest producer of copper and silver in the world and considered a major producer of gold and zinc.  Mineral exportation represented 56% of the country’s total exports for 2011 and is the economic engine of the country.

This fact has not been ignored by the new government of President Ollanta Humala and the mining companies which are set to invest over $50 billion in mine expansion in the near future.  Humala, during the launch of ‘Trabaja Peru’ confirmed his commitment to creating new jobs many of which will be in the mining sector.
