America crushed Necaxa 3-1, while the Culiacan Dorados beat Pachuca 5-2 in the fourth round of the Copa MX, a tournament that features 11 Mexican First-Division teams and 13 Second-Division teams.
America scored on goals by Ventura Alvarado, Antonio Lopez and Gil Cordero, overcoming the initial lead by Necaxa in the match played Tuesday night at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium.
The Dorados, the defending Copa MX champions, got goals from four different players and benefited from a self-goal by Aldair Meza in their decisive win over Pachuca.
In other Copa MX action, Neza beat Estudiantes de Altamira 3-0; Atlante defeated the UAT Correcaminos 4-0; Atlas tied Lobos BUAP 0-0; and Estudiantes Tecos beat Morelia 3-1.
Cruz Azul Hidalgo plays San Luis, Merida takes on Puebla, Veracruz plays Queretaro, Irapuato plays Cruz Azul and Celaya takes on the Pumas UNAM in Copa MX action on Wednesday.
Chiapas will play La Piedad on Thursday.
