Reports coming out of the Vatican indicate Pope Benedict decided to retire after his trip to Mexico-Cuba back in March of last year.  Several reports indicate the 85-year-old Pontiff injured his head when he got up suddenly in the middle of the night at Miraflores College where he resided during his visit.

Vatican has been releasing information about the Pope’s health inclusive of the fact that he had his pacemaker replaced three months ago.  There is focus on Pope Benedict’s health since he announced he was stepping down effective February 28, 2013 – something that had not been done by another Pontiff in almost 600 years.

In spite of the relevation the Vatican denies his accident in Mexico had anything to do with the resignation.  In his announcement to step down the Pontiff cites his “advanced age” as the reason for the historic resignation.

The Pontiff’s five-day visit to Mexico and Cuba was welcomed by very large crowds where he hosted several large open-air masses for hundreds of thousands of followers.
