So Cute! Banana Joe and Handler Ernesto Lara Win Westminster’s “Best In Show”

On On Tuesday, the adorable affenpinscher named Banana Joe took home the big prize at the 137th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show: Best in Show.

Banana Joe is no stranger to competing in dog shows, as he had 85 best in show awards going into the big show, but it was not until his third entrance to Westminster that he took home the top prize there.

At five years old, Banana Joe was on point at Madison Square Garden as he was showed off by handler Ernesto Lara.

Judge Michael Dougherty said Banana Joe was “presented in immaculate manner.” Adding the little dog “was on the minute he walked in.”

Officially named Banana Joe V Tani Kazari, the little black dog with a flat face was the first affenpinscher to take home Westminster’s Best in Show prize.

After Banana Joe was announced top dog, Lara, with a big smile on his face, lifted his furry friend in the air in celebration.

There were 2,721 entries in 187 breeds and varieties at this year’s Westminster. Runner-up to Banana Joe was the 20-month-old Old English Sheepdog, Swagger, who came in first in the herding group.

Banana Joe was scheduled to head back to the Netherlands on Wednesday with co-owner and breeder Mieke Cooijmans, but after his victory, it was said he would remain in the states with Cooijmans for a bit longer. Though the date is

Carlos Beletore was one of the many working behind the scenes to get Banana Joe ready. He spent hours brushing and fluffing the little guy’s hair for his last show. It was confirmed that Westminster was Banana Joe’s final show, and he is retiring on top.

An interesting fact about the loveable little guy: he understands German, Spanish, Dutch, and English.
