Judges on reality television can be contestants’ harshest critic or their biggest fan.
It is unclear what side American Idol judge Nicki Minaj was on however, when she told singer Matheus Fernades to stop using his short stature to seek a “pity party.”
Fernandes, at 22, stands at 4 feet, 9 inches, and said he is often overlooked because he looks like a 10-year-old.
After hearing him sing at his audition however, judge Randy Jackson said, “To me, you’re 10 feet tall.”
During Hollywood though, judge Nicki Minaj, was showing little sympathy, telling him, “Sometimes things can go from being inspiring to becoming you wanting a pity party,” telling him not to “milk that ever again.”
Depsite the criticism, Minaj did go on to encourage him to be himself, “Be great.”
Sadly, Matheus’ American Idol journey ended in Hollywood after he had trouble during his first performance with a band.
The devastated singer was brought to tears at the judges decision to send him home, but we have a feeling the former Glee Project contestant will continue to sing.
During his first audition, diva judge Mariah Carey told him, “Regardless of the height, race, sex, whatever, you hit me in the heart and you brought me to tears, which I’m holding back currently ... And I want you to know you can sing anything for me, any day of the week.”
