A freelance paparazzo was killed in Los Angeles on Tuesday after he was struck by a car as he was trying to take photos of what he thought was Justin Bieber getting a traffic ticket.
Paparazzo Chris Guerra had reportedly been following Justin Bieber’s Ferrari around town on Tuesday, and had told friends he was the only one who knew Bieber and Selena Gomez were not in Mexico as they claimed. However, Guerra was incorrect, and the person driving Bieber’s Ferrari when it was pulled over yesterday was the singer’s friend Lil Twist.
Lil Twist and a friend were pulled over by the California Highway Patrol for speeding on the 405 freeway near the Getty Center in L.A. when Guerra got out to snap some shots. The CHP officer is said to have repeatedly ordered Guerra back to his car.
After snapping a few shots, he turned to walk back to his car and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. He died as a result of his injuries and the Los Angeles Police Department is now investigating the incident.
Drugs and alcohol are not said to have been a factor for the driver that hit Guerra.
The paparazzo, who was in late 20s, was not married and had no children.
Following the incident, Bieber released a statement saying, “Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves.”
Miley Cyrus, who is also constantly followed by pushy paps, commented on the incident on Twitter.
