Almost 24-hours after a massive electrical outage blacked out large portions of California, Arizona and Mexico, effecting 6 million people, power is being restored.
The San Diego area was hit the hardest by the black out with almost 1.4 million customers losing power, closing schools, spilling sewage and cancelling flights. As of a half hour ago power has been restored to most of this area.
In Mexico, over 1 million customers lost power which has now been restored. The power outage in Arizona was centered in Yuma where the outage is thought to have started.
Apparently an Arizona utility worker doing some maintenance work on a high-voltage power line that links Arizona and San Diego triggered the outage. It is unclear why the power outage wasn’t isolated to Yuma but rather spread throughout the power grid.
