The elderly Spanish amateur artist who made news worldwide for the failed restoration of a Christ painting is now selling other works on eBay.
The botched restoration of an oil painting titled “Ecce Homo” (“Behold the Man”) done by 80-year-old Celia Gimenez went viral as all around the world, people gasped at the complete lack of resemblance to the original art work. It became so famous, Saturday Night Live spoofed it, and the “restoration” became known as the “Ecce Mono” (“Behold the Monkey”).
Now, Gimenez is selling some of her other pieces, with one titled “Las Bodegas de Borja” selling for €1,080 ($1,421) on eBay.
When asked about her most famous “work of art” Gimenez remains unappologetic and says she did it for her church, which owned “Ecce Homo”.
Gimenez said the proceeds from her eBay auctions will go to Caritas, a Catholic charity organization.
