Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is moving closer to laying off 1,900 state workers and closing seven state operated facilities.
In an effort to stem the budget deficit and the state’s poor revenue prospects, Quinn is moving to save $313 million through these measures. The governor is proposing to close mental health centers through out the state and the layoffs would be related to those closures.
In addition to mental health centers closing the Governor is also proposing to close a downstate developmentally disabled center and the Logan Correctional Center and the Illinois Youth Center also.
