Mezcalina Restaurant in Chicago was officially awarded by Mexican government as one of 23 “Authentic Mexican Restaurants”
In addition, its Master Chef Dudley Nieto was awarded for his contributions to promoting authentic Mexican gastronomy
What: Mezcalina Restaurant was awarded as one of 23 “Authentic Mexican Restaurants” last night at The Second Authentic Mexican Restaurant Award Ceremony. Its Chef Dudley Nieto was also awarded for his authentic culinary contributions. The event was hosted by the Mexican Government’s Secretary of Agriculture (SAGARPA) in conjunction with Authentic Flavors of Mexico AC, the Tourism Board of Mexico, the General Consulate of Mexico in Chicago, and the Mexican-US Chamber of Commerce Midwest Chapter
Where: At The Historic Chicago building “The Murphy”, 50 E. Erie, Chicago, IL
Why: The annual Ceremony was developed in order to promote the culinary traditions of Mexico. In addition, it featured the gastronomy and products of the state of Jalisco, a region well known for tequila and mariachis, and to keep the title given by UNESCO to the Mexican cuisine: “Cultural Heritage and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.”
Additionally, a special award was delivered to Mezcalina’s Master Chef Dudley Nieto, for his contributions made throughout this year to the gastronomic Mexican community, through several Mexican restaurants, of which the latest is Mezcalina. Corporate Chef Manuel Bañuelos delighted the ceremony guests with an authentic Jalisco dish.
How: Mezcalina Restaurant and 22 other restaurants were awarded by Authentic Flavors of Mexico AC, based on their contribution in spreading the Mexican cuisine along with its traditions, gastronomy and support to Mexican fields through consumption of Mexican products.
The ceremony was hosted by Mexican Government’s Secretary of Agriculture (SAGARPA), General Consul of Mexico in Chicago, Eduardo Arnal Palomera, and representatives of ProMexico in Chicago, Jaltrade, Mexican-US Chamber of Commerce Midwest Chapter, the Mexican Promotional Tourism Council and Authentic Flavors of Mexico Foundation.
