Thanks to the efforts of elected officials in Humboldt Park, private funding and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) a new soccer field is being built in Humboldt Park.
The construction, which is under way, is happening right next to the Institute of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture located at the 1300 block of North Marin Drive. The soccer field will have synthetic turf and address the issue of lack of playing fields within the 206 acre park. The project was announced last October as the former Mayor Richard Daley was doing his last neighborhood tours before leaving office.
The project received a $800,000 TIF introduced by the former Mayor and approved by City council.
