The body of a U.S. citizen arrested in Mexico late last month was found in his prison cell after he apparently died from blood loss.
William Allen Smith, 37, was arrested for burglary on October 22. He was being held in Juarez Cereso prison when he reportedly bled to death, the Chihuahua Attorney General’s office said.
Officials say Smith had wounds to his wrists and bruises on his back. He was found dead, sitting in a chair in one of the prison bathrooms.
Smith was originally from Ohio and had been living in Ciudad Juarez.
An investigation has begun and state prosecutors say they are working to determine if foul play was involved.
